The History of Marriage 101

Bob & Starr spent 40 years counseling marriages, singles, teens, parents and pre-maritals. In the beginning, after only 5 years of marriage, “we were on our way to divorce court, with imprints so different we couldn’t communicate” Starr remembers. “We were teaching and counseling, highly effective I may add, but immediately afterwards, we would fight like cats and dogs.” 


Shortly thereafter Bob & Starr were invited to a graduation night where they listened to other couples who had learned how to get along with each other and immediately signed themselves up for a 13-week class. They completed two more 13-week classes and their marriage began to heal. Starr says this was the turning point of their lives. Going into the first class they told themselves that “if this doesn’t work, we’ll go our separate ways”. After the classes they decided to use their experience to help more couples and became leaders for The University of the Family. 


 Over the next 16 years Bob & Starr hosted 13-week Married for Life courses multiple times a year, inviting hundreds of struggling couples into their home. It was in these courses, in 2001, where they would meet Phil & Jessica Delgado.   
  
After University of the Family and Married for Life, Bob & Starr decided to branch out with their own marriage ministry, Marriage 101, and continued teaching classes as God led, incorporating curriculum Starr developed in prayer with the Holy Spirit.

On January 11, 2019 Bob passed away after nearly 40 years of marriage. “I know where my precious Bob is and God has me in the palm of His hand on Earth until I graduate and am rejoined with Bob.” 

After 2 years of being a widow Starr met David Martinez, “an amazing man, a self-made man, great businessman, tender lover, wise minister, and great prayer warrior who absolutely adores me as I do him!” Starr was prepared to continue providing free counseling with David but God had other plans.  

A writer and publisher of many years herself, Starr and David are now writing a book together, “Senior Love, God’s Way”. Star says, “The book is essential for seniors, and we look forward to getting it out.”

Today, Marriage 101 has entered a new season. Phil & Jessica Delgado have trained under Bob and Starr’s ministry for over 20 years and will continue offering free marriage counseling fulfilling the shared mission of their lifelong friends, mentors, and spiritual parents Bob & Starr Calo-oy, and now David Martinez. Together we believe that “Every person on earth has a mission mandate from God, our Creator. Ours is helping married couples become One-Flesh and stay that way”.
